I love this place. It has the ultimate latin vibe . Colorful with great music streaming through and a menu that just doesn't stop. With hard floors, hard ceiling. The sound level can be pretty loud in there sometimes, but it just adds to the ambience and intensity. I had the 6 prawn Mofungo with plantains and a salad. I drank limeade and used copious slashes of pique. Delish all.

Bomb a** Puerto Rican food. I suggest the special on Tuesdays, it's the best thing I've had on their menu, BUT everything is really good and flavorful. The Tuesday's special is the pastelon de carne or they also have the veggie option. I'm a fan of the veggie option just because I'm a big fan of sweet plantain and Spanish olives, the way all these veggies come together on your palate makes you want to devour every little crumb of what's left of it off of your plate. Give it a try with their refreshing sparkling lemonade. Service was excellent. Cooks looked busy but all in high spirits. I'm a fan!

Food based on delivery: * Costillas Combo: Rotisserie pork ribs served with rice, beans, organic salad, and fried plantain or Puerto Rican fried potatoes. Wheat Free. I got pink beans and fried plantains for $32.95 * Coco mango smoothie for $6.95 this i would skip. * Flan de coco for $5.25 was good. It wasn't a must have but it was nice to try out!

We went for a hike nearby and stopped by after for a late lunch at around 3:30PM- it was packed still and even had a short wait! The food was incredible and the portions are definitely shareable. We got the pollo horno which was highly recommended, the steak platter and the punche drink which was incredibly refreshing! Don't forget to add some of the delicious pique sauce to your dishes! They apparently have two locations, one that only does takeout and this one which has sit down tables! The tables are communal so we sat next to another family who were Puerto Rican and told us how authentic the food was! And truly, it was amazing!

After our hike from Muir woods, this was the place we were excited to have lunch after. Been here several times and food is always great. They do have plenty of street parking. When you walk in most of the time there will be a line. You basically order your food first and then you get seated. Sometimes you are seated with random people. They have a very homie feel inside thier restaurant. Their menu is pretty busy and they offer alot so it can get overwhelming specially for first timers. We usually stick to what we already is thier specialty. Food came out pretty quickly. We ordered our usual Bistec encebollado plate (large) subbed mine with fries instead of plantains, moffongo with with shrimp, cubano sancwich(not pictured) also porkribs plate. My son also ordered mango drink. I was sand they were out of the sweet plantains. But everything we had was so good!

Sol Food is a well-known, long-standing Puerto Rican establishment in the heart of Marin. If you ask anyone in Marin where to eat they'll immediately say Sol Food. It's been years since I've dined in. Normally I have it catered for work events or get it to-go at their other location. The interior is quite a scene--bright, colorful, loud, and lively. Seating is open with bar seating and communal tables. Due to popularity and ordering at the counter, the ordering process can take a while, and service interaction is limited. As a teen, I loved getting their sandwiches! This time I got the Sándwich De Pollo and my companion had the Cubano. We both got our sandwiches without cheese and shared. The first thing I noticed was they didn't give as much meat as they used to--the best part! Aside from that, I also wished it had more flavor or juiciness to it. We also split the Tostones con Mojo which was mild yet dense, slightly garlicky, and starchy. I wouldn't get it again but glad to have tried it. Sol Food has three locations in Marin County, but San Rafael is the original. The restaurant is easy to spot with a bright green exterior, but parking is limited to metered or neighborhood. The food and service can be a hit or miss, but due to popularity, I'd say try it once!

We've been by Sol Food many times but never had a chance to eat there because there's always a long wait. This time it wasn't a problem on a Friday for lunch. I had the chuletas fritas and it was really satisfying. They pound the pork chop very thinly and you can order a single one or two. I probably could have eaten two but I'm glad I didn't because about half of my plate was fried. The tostone was slightly greasy but still very good. There was a nice contrast of flavor with the saltiness of the fried pork chop and the pickled onions on top. The salad was really fresh and it was dressed well. I ended up eating my plantain as a dessert and it was a great way to round out the meal. I'm glad we got in, it was worth the wait!
